Tigray’s Central Command issued a statement regarding tanks and artillery attacks by #Ethiopian National Defense Army in #WesternTigray targeting areas controlled by #Tigray Defence Forces in the direction of #Dedebit while the latter was “on its regular defence activities”.
The shelling occurred on Monday August 15 2022 and lasted for one hour starting at 4pm local time according to a statement from the Central Command issued today where it also said “it observed that the action (by Ethiopian Government) makes the use of force as the only option for Government of Tigray to liberate Western Tigray and to return is displaced residents” adding “The only option for the Ethiopian government still is peace and commitment to peace”.
The statement mentioned that the Central Command ordered it forces not to reciprocate and took time to study if the shelling was approved by #AddisAbaba or was an isolated mistake by an army commander in the locality. The statement said the Central Command was able to “confirm that it was intentional” and with the top informed about it.
