A faction of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), led by Debretsion Gebremichael, has denied allegations that it, along with certain Tigray Army generals, are secretly collaborating with the Eritrean government to undermine the Tigray Interim Regional Administration.
The faction issued its statement following reports from Africa Intelligence and Oromia Media Network (OMN), and Ethiopian government official Abraham Belay—a Prosperity Party Executive Committee member and close ally of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed—alleged that the faction and certain military figures were working against the ongoing peace process.
The claims have raised concerns among Tigrayans, with critics warning that such actions, if true, would violate the Pretoria Agreement, a key framework for regional stability.
In response, the TPLF faction issued a statement on its commitment to peace, declaring, “Our principled position for peace will not change in any way.” It rejected allegations of hidden agendas, emphasizing that the TPLF, the Tigray Army, and the people of Tigray remain dedicated to the Pretoria Agreement and to securing a just and lawful peace. The statement also underscored the hardships endured in pursuit of stability.
Calling for the proper implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, the statement urged all parties to stay focused on resolving regional and national conflicts. It also appealed to the international community and the Ethiopian public to remain vigilant against what it described as “irresponsible attempts” to derail the peace process.
The TPLF faction reiterated that neither the party nor the people of Tigray have any hidden motives beyond ensuring a just and lasting peace.
